[Reverend H.S.P. Warren photograph album of indigenous boys at St. Michael's College, Belize]

Creator/Contributor:

Warren, Rev. H. S. P., creator, creator.

Abstract:

Chiefly portraits of indigenous boys of Belize (then a British colony) taken by Rev. H.S.P. Warren while he was principal of St. Michael's College, an Anglican boys' secondary school in Belize. Images depict the boys in traditional attire or nude, often posing in activities that accentuate their physiques -- e.g. bathing, reclining, exercising, etc. Some photographs include indigenous material culture such as bows and arrows, baskets or water vessels. A few depict boys in school or church. Many views are taken outdoors and show local flora. Warren is depicted in 3 photographs. Accompanied by various papers (PIC folder): a manuscript copy of an article published in the June 19, 1943 issue of "Clarion" in Belize, reporting on a ceremony honoring Warren upon his departure from the school after 5 years of service (beginning in 1938; and a manuscript map of Warren's residential property with annotations referring to locations of various photographic images (which may or may not be included in the album)
